Instead of cutting costs by slashing budgets for important sectors, the prime minister could give up his pay and moonlight as an Uber driver.

Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli made the suggestion at a press conference at the Parliament lobby today.

He was referring to the cuts in Najib's Budget 2017 and the prime minister's suggestion during his speech for those in need of spare income to become Uber drivers.

"I have a better suggestion for Najib (instead of budget cuts) to aid the rakyat.

"He can forgo his salary, allowances and other costs to cut the government's spending so that it can be channelled to the rakyat," said Rafizi.

"To cover his living costs, I suggest Najib take a part time job as an Uber driver at night," said the Pandan MP.

Meanwhile, Rafizi also criticised Budget 2017 over cuts in funding for education and health while billions are being spent to subsidise highway operators.

Rafizi said RM3.9 billion is being channelled in subsidies to the East Klang Valley Expressway and Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Expressway.

He said that this amounts to 12 percent allocated to the services and supplies.

Making matters worse is that fact that these companies are being subsidised by taxes borne by the public, he said.

Rafizi added that he would be writing to the prime minister, Economic Planning Unit, Works Minister and Selangor menteri besar to demand a freeze on subsidy payments to the two companies.
