University lecturer and independent preacher Muhammad Rozaimi Ramle is considering the possibility of releasing an audio recording of a meeting with the PAS leadership about amendments to Act 355 which he attended

This was after he claimed that certain parties from PAS Youth have been spreading inaccurate information about the meet.

“After reading the commentary by a representative from PAS Youth legal and human rights bureau (Juham) that I was supposedly silenced by the argument from Syura Council member Khairuddin Aman Razali, I think that I have to distribute the recording of yesterday’s meeting,” wrote Rozaimi on his Facebook page.

His statement came after Juham director Wan Rohimi Wan Daud wrote a comment piece about the meeting in Harakahdaily yesterday.

In the article, Wan Rohimi wrote: “If hudud is Allah’s commandment, thus isn’t working towards implementing God’s law and commandments compulsory for all Muslims?

“Within the confines of existing law, isn’t it then compulsory to work for it? At least for the three offences that will be punishable with amendments to Act 355. All were stunned into silence by this question,” wrote Wan Rohimi.

Yesterday, Rozaimi attended an informal meeting with several senior PAS leaders including party secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, information chief Nasruddin Hassan and Khairuddin.

Also present at the two-hour meeting which took place at the Seri Pacific Hotel at 5pm, was former Perlis mufti Juanda Jaya.

The meeting took place after Rozaimi openly criticised some PAS leaders who labelled Muslims not supportive of the motion to amend Act 355 as infidels.

Rozaimi, who is also a lecturer at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris’ Islamic Studies, Social Sciences and Humanities Department, also did not agree that the amendments will preclude non-Muslims who committed the same crime from punishment.

Yesterday’s meeting reportedly went well in a cordial and harmonious atmosphere, until Wan Rohimi wrote what he did about it.

It was in that meeting that Wan Rohimi claimed that Khairuddin posed the “interesting question” about the motion to amend Act 355, which supposedly stunned the others present into silence.

Wan Rohimi wrote that till the end of the meeting, Rozaimi remained steadfast against the amendments to Act 355.

“His only excuse was that it is unfair in cases involving Muslims and non-Muslims (sex out of wedlock cases for example), as only the Muslim will be punished and the non-Muslim spared,” he wrote.
