Check my attendance, Pua tells PAC chair over absenteeism claim

Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua has blasted public accounts committee (PAC) chief Hasan Arifin for insinuating that it is common for the former to be absent from meetings.
"You can check my attendance records at PAC meetings since 2008.
"Other than the sitting chairmen who were ever present (they set the dates after all), I dare say that no one else had a higher attendance rate than me," wrote Pua on his Facebook last night.
He was responding to Hasan who, when asked about Pua and other PAC members possibly boycotting the committee's meetings, said it was a common occurrence.
"Biasa la dia (that is normal of him)," the PAC chair told reporters yesterday.
Pua said he has not attended the meetings since Hasan made the controversial move of removing an important reference from the final PAC report on 1MDB.
Hasan had unilaterally deleted a sentence stating that Bank Negara had informed the PAC that Good Star Ltd was owned by an individual not linked to the PetroSaudi group.
It has since been established Good Star is owned by Penang-born tycoon Jho Low, whom US authorities claim misappropriated 1MDB monies.
"I have not attended the PAC meetings since this [...] PAC chairperson unilaterally removed what has been agreed in PAC meetings from the PAC report on 1MDB, and intentionally hid a crucial letter from Bank Negara from the PAC members," wrote Pua.
He berated Hasan for the insinuation that he had instead often absented himself from PAC meetings.
The DAP parliamentarian had played an active role in the PAC when it was chaired by Nur Jazlan Mohamed, before the latter was replaced along with other BN members of the committee.
This took place amid a series of controversial moves that included the sacking of then attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail and of deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
Last month four opposition PAC members boycotted the PAC meeting in protest against Hasan's decision not to reopen investigations into 1MDB.
They were PKR Selayang MP William Leong, PKR Telok Kemang MP Kamarul Baharin Abbas, PAS Kota Bharu MP Takiyuddin Hassan, and DAP Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua.
