Lawyer Adnan Seman today said he was disappointed that Bernama TV host Dahlan Maamor was suspended for airing Adnan's view that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak should consider resigning.

Adnan said he believed Dahlan had noble intentions when the latter shared his remarks on Facebook.

The lawyer had first made the comments about Najib as a guest on the live Ruang Bicara show, which Dahlan hosts, on Tuesday night.

“Yes, I did make the statement that Najib should step down through a process of transfer of power as this had happened before in the party when Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was asked to step down and Najib agreed to the transfer.

“I have said many things and it is my own personal opinion. The listeners or anyone need not agree with my views,” Adnan said in a Facebook post today.

Adnan, who has represented Umno ministers in defamation cases, said he spoke from all political angles on the show that night.

“I stated the importance of having stable politics as it directly affects the stability of the economy and the people's welfare.

“The crisis of confidence faced by the country's leaders has to be resolved soon to avoid any further split and negative impact to the country.”

Adnan said throughout his years of speaking as a guest on the programme, the discussion had always been frank and transparent.

He added that Malaysians would call in and share their opinions; some of them critical of the government, others critical of the opposition. None of the views were censored, he said.

“Whenever I spoke on Ruang Bicara, I would speak based on my knowledge and observation of politics and society, from various viewpoints.

“I also spoke from my heart, and of my desire to one day see a more open, mature political environment that is focused solely on the people's needs."

He said he knew many good leaders from both the government and the opposition, and that he was sure many Malaysians wanted to see both sides improve for the sake of a better country.

But he added that he was doubtful he would be invited to speak on the show again, given Dahlan's suspension.

Dahlan yesterday said he had been suspended following pressure from Umno.

He said Umno’s media unit secretary Ahmad Kamal Zailani was unimpressed by his Facebook post on Adnan's view about Najib, and had raised the issue on WhatsApp.

Dahlan was subsequently suspended by Bernama chairperson Azman Ujang.
