Umno information chief Annuar Musa has denied rumours that the party will be taking action against former second finance minister Husni Hanadzlah for raising questions on 1MDB in his Budget 2017 debate.

Sinar Harian quoted Annuar as saying that Husni had used Parliament as the right platform to ask his questions.

“At this point (the issue of) actions against him (Ahmad Husni) does not arise.

“So long as he speaks on the right platform, uses his rights as an MP and so long as he has good intentions,” said Annuar.

“I like seeing the government criticised, it is all right. We are not a government that wants to shut people's mouth and they can only say good things,” the Ketereh MP reportedly said after an Umno information bureau roadshow with Federal Territories grassroot leaders.

Husni, together with former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin and former rural and regional development minister Shafie Apdal, were previously accused of having allegedly broken their secrecy oaths taken while in office.

Among others, Husni, who remains as Tambun MP, had questioned why 1MDB would only be paid for disposing off a 60 percent stake in Bandar Malaysia in 2020.

Sinar Harian yesterday quoted Parti Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Perak coordinator Hamidah Othman as saying that she believes Husni would be sacked from Umno based on the questions he had raised.

Hamidah, a former Wanita Umno leader, said the move was expected to happen as Umno has now supposedly lost all reason in dealing with its critics.

Commenting further, Annuar reportedly said he had personally contacted Husni to clarify his questions.

“I was puzzled when he (Husni) asked why 1MDB was formed. After all, he had answered that same question last year.

“He had explained to me but it was not the same like his speech in Parliament. Maybe the way he communicates is not effective enough,” Annuar added.

Police are expected to record Husni’s statement at Bukit Aman police headquarters later this afternoon over his speech.
