Umno Youth has filed a police report over the leak that billionaire George Soros' Open Society Foundation (OSF) had funded electoral watchdog Bersih, independent pollster Merdeka Center and news portal Malaysiakini.

Two other Malay groups Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) and Martabat Jalinan Muhibbah Malaysia (MJMM) also filed similar reports.

Umno youth exco member Ibdilillah Ishak urged the police to act against Bersih, Merdeka Center and Malaysiakini if its is proven the trio had received funds from OSF.

"The DC Leaks must be taken seriously as it appears there is an element of intervention in the country's affairs," said Umno Youth social media chairperson Ibdilillah Ishak.

"I urge the authority to probe the contents of DC Leaks.

"If it is true, the authorities must act against those who received the funding as this is a betrayal to the democratic process," he told reporters at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

Meanwhile, JMM lodged a police report against John Pang, an OSF board member, for his alleged role in channelling the funds into Malaysia.

JMM president Azwan Din Hamzah told the press that he has submitted 24 confidential documents to prove both Pang and Soros transferred money to Bersih through OSF.

The evidence, he said, included communication between the duo on their plans and attempt to channel the fund into Malaysia.

Azwan however declined to reveal the purported evidence to the media.

The JMM president also alleged that some 30 Bersih leaders and politicians could have received such funding.

He said JMM would submit the names of the individuals to the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) to check if they had declared the sums and paid taxes.

"After that, we will pressure Bank Negara to act as well,” he added.

Martabat Jalinan Muhibbah Malaysia (MJMM) leader Abdul Rani Kulup Abdullah, who also lodged a report on the leaks, demanded for action to be taken.

A document that purportedly originated from international grant-making network OSF has alleged that its founder Soros has a "personal interest" in the Malaysian elections.

The leaked document, supposedly the minutes of a June 22, 2015 meeting on OSF's Malaysia Programme revealed by DC Leaks, detailed support provided by OSF and its affiliates to the civil society in Malaysia to support free and fair elections.

Following this, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said an investigation would be launched if a police report is filed.

Previously, Malaysiakini chief executive officer Premesh Chandran clarified the grant in relation to KiniTV was used to produce the Realiti Sarawak and Sekilas Bumi Kenyalang programmes.

"The grant mentioned was to support KiniTV to produce more news bulletins and stories on Sarawak, which is difficult for Malaysiakini, given the costs associated to cover the large and difficult to access state," he said.

He said the grant only constituted a small portion of Malaysiakini's revenue, which depended largely on subscription and advertising.

Premesh also stressed that the new portal is not in the business of overthrowing the government, but rather holding those in power accountable.

Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah has dismissed the claim that the movement is sponsored by the billionaire, and is seeking legal advice on filing a suit.

Maria had said Bersih received grants from OSF and the National Democratic Institute in 2010 and 2011, but this was not used for its rallies.
