AirAsia plane skids off runway at Kota Baru airport

AirAsia has confirmed that flight AK6443 scheduled to depart from Kota Baru to Kuala Lumpur last night was involved in an accident while taxiing on the runway at Sultan Ismail Petra airport in Kelantan.

The low-cost carrier said all the passengers and crew on board the A320 Airbus were safe and no injuries had been reported.

"All guests were attended to and all necessary assistance were provided," it said in a press statement.

AirAsia also noted that another flight, AK6446, which was originally scheduled to arrive into Kota Baru from Kuala Lumpur yesterday evening, had been cancelled.

"AirAsia will keep affected guests informed on the latest departure," it said.

It was reported by Astro Awani that the plane skidded at the runway while taxiing before take-off.

The incident happened at around 10.25pm last night.

In its latest statement, AirAsia said flights are operating normally from Sultan Ismail Petra airport today.

Flight AK6446 which was scheduled to depart last night has departed for Kota Baru at 9am, it added.
