Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Muhyiddin Yassin said his party was eager to recruit former finance minister II Husni Hanadzlah.

Asked about the possibility of Husni joining Bersatu, Muhyiddin used a Malay proverb to express the party's willingness to accept him.

"If (Husni) is comfortable being with us, then 'kecil tapak tangan, nyiru kita tadah' (we welcome with open arms)," he told a press conference in Putrajaya today.

Husni, who is the Tambun MP, had come under attack from Umno after he questioned the government's handling of 1MDB in the Dewan Rakyat.

Muhyiddin said Bersatu is watching this development closely.

"I believe he is facing problems for making public his stance recently.

"Whether Umno will take action against him, we do not know. Perhaps they will, perhaps not. We will be watching," he said.

Muhyiddin, who is also Pagoh MP, said he would not be fair to him to predict if Husni will face action.

"That is a matter for his party (Umno), not mine. I don't want to meddle in Umno affairs," he said.

Asked if Bersatu will have a position for Husni if he were to join the party, Muhyiddin said he will take the matter one step at a time.
