It is Umno, not DAP, that caused a split in PAS, the Islamic party’s deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has said.

He said this in response to Umno information chief Annuar Musa’s claim that DAP tries to break up Malay parties by planting proxies in those parties in an attempt to dominate Malays.

However, Tuan Ibrahim did not discount DAP's opposition to the policies of PAS, which he said led to friction within the party.

"Our experience is that Umno is the one causing splits within PAS. PAS fell in Kelantan and Terengganu in the past because of Umno.

"However, DAP's meddling ways and its stance against our policies and struggles also contributed to what has happened," he said.

Even so, Tuan Ibrahim said, it is Umno and BN that have treated PAS as their enemies and not the others in the opposition.

"DAP did not inflitrate PAS but DAP managed to attract PAS splinters when the fissure happened," he said.

He is believed to be referring to the split that led to the formation of Amanah, formed by a former PAS faction unhappy with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's leadership.

Meanwhile, Selangor DAP committee member Edry Faizal Yusof said Annuar (photo) was cooking up conspiracy theories to persuade himself on a reason why many Malays are allegedly not behind Umno anymore.

"Umno leaders have to stop lying to themselves...They need to accept the fact that Malays are not split but are just tired of Umno's kleptocracy and corruption, so they migrate to a different path," Edry said.

PKR vice-president Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin agrees that Annuar is spouting unfounded "propaganda".

"I would like to remind Annuar that the 'puppet approach' is only employed by Umno on BN component parties," Shamsul said.

He added that Pakatan Harapan and its predecessor, Pakatan Rakyat, work on consensus and all parties have a say.

Yesterday, Annuar said DAP is out to split the Malay community by planting proxies in other opposition parties.

He said this was DAP's bid to gain control of the country via its "puppets" in other parties.

DAP is also trying to sow seeds of discord within the Malay community by co-operating with former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu.

The party’s express purpose is to topple BN in the 14th general election and control Putrajaya through its puppets, Annuar said.
