PAS today confirmed it is in talks with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), noting that the Umno offshoot had never betrayed the Islamist party.

“We cooperate with parties that never betrayed PAS,” its Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz told reporters in Parliament today.

“There are parties to which we have opened discussions, like Bersatu. That (discussion) is open. There have been discussions with them.

“The meeting with Bersatu did happen. Muhyiddin himself had given a ceramah in Terengganu with PAS leaders,” said Nik Abduh in reference to Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin.

“How we want to form the cooperation is still being discussed,” he added.

Muhyiddin had on Oct 2 reportedly spoken at a PAS ceramah in Kemaman, Terengganu, and among others, requested for the party to give up some of its seats and allow Bersatu to contest against Umno.

Commenting further, Nik Abduh said in-depth discussions were needed as Bersatu was also cooperating with PAS’ nemesis, DAP, together with PKR and PAS-splinter Amanah.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang on Saturday reportedly said that the party was always ready to discuss cooperating with other parties whose goals were in line with its own.

Following the breakup of former federal opposition pact Pakatan Rakyat, PAS has since formed a 'third bloc' with Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia.
