The family of Muhammad Shahril Sugumaran Abdullah, who was shot dead by police, have forked out RM15,000 for a second post-mortem.

This after his body was exhumed from the Sungai Tua cemetery yesterday, more than two months after his death in an alleged police shoot-out on the Selayang-Kepong Highway on Aug 19.

The remains were taken to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre at 3.30pm for a second post-mortem, which will be done on Thursday.

The results will be reviewed at the inquest into the deaths of Muhammad Shahril and S Uvarajan.

Uvarajan's body has been cremated, but Muhammad Shahril's family sought a second most-mortem, believing the duo died under suspicious circumstances.

Among others they questioned if Muhammad Shahril was handcuffed, because there were bruises around his wrists.

They also questioned the need to restrain him, since the police claimed he died in the shoot-out.

Selangor CID deputy chief Mohd Adnan Abdullah reportedly said police noticed Muhammad Shahril and Uvarajan acting suspiciously near the Forest Research Institute Malaysia and a chase ensued.

The duo allegedly rammed into a police car and fired at several police officers, prompting the shoot-out, Adnan said.
