Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar wants the Election Commission to reveal the topography and population distribution experts who advised it on changes to electoral boundaries.

The PKR vice-president said today the EC is required to seek the views of these experts under Article 115(2) of the Federal Constitution.

These experts are to be selected by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the section states.

"For starters, it would be good if the EC can reveal whose views it used for the redelineation. Who were the experts that were appointed by the Agong?

"At least the public will be able to judge who these experts are and if they are independent," she said, after attending a local inquiry hearing on redelineation held by the EC in Putrajaya.

Nurul Izzah, who submitted an objection, said she will also appoint an expert on the boundary issue and urged the EC to hold a discussion on the matter.

EC must show transparency

Her lawyer Yusmadi Yusoff said the EC cannot hide the identity of the experts as it is not sealed under the Official Secrets Act.

"We demand to know who the experts are because the EC says it is trying to do things according to the constitution.

"So we urge for transparency and for the EC to show Lembah Pantai voters all the relevant documents for review.

"The EC chief must do so to gain public trust," said Yusmadi, who is also a voter in Lembah Pantai.

The redelineation process for Parliament and state constituencies in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah commenced on Sept 15.

The deadline for objections was Oct 15 while local inquiry hearings are going on.

The local inquiry process for the Federal Territories is from Nov 7-9 at Hotel Marriot, Putrajaya.

The EC is required to hold a local inquiry if there are objections to the boundary change by a state government or by a local government, or by at least 100 voters in a constituency.
