The Philippine Supreme Court has voted to allow the controversial burial of late strongman Ferdinand Marcos in the country's Heroes’ Cemetery.

Voting 9-5, with one justice abstaining, the tribunal dismissed petitions arguing that Marcos was not entitled to a hero’s burial because of allegations of corruption, human rights violations and other abuses.

Hundreds of Marcos loyalists who waited outside the Supreme Court building cheered after the decision was announced, while those opposed cried and vowed to appeal.
