Cheras Umno division chief Syed Ali Alhabshee has accused the opposition of being jealous of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's successful trip to China.

He said this is the reason why they are tarnishing Najib's reputation by hurling accusations that he was “selling Malaysia” to China.

“Such allegations are done with bad intentions. It is immoral and irresponsible, and directed to destroy the people and the confidence of foreign investors,” Syed Ali said in a blog posting.

The opposition should not politicise Najib's visit as this is done for the people and country's future, he added.

“The China visit has managed to attract investments and opened up a new dimension in the economic development for the country in the long run."

Syed Ali said the opposition are envious of Najib's hard work after he opened a new era in foreign trade with his third visit to China since he became the prime minister.

“The PM has managed to bring in billions of ringgit in investment in infrastructure project which would uplift the country's economic achievements.

“The visit would further improve the present economic downturn,” he added.

During the visit, 14 memorandums of understanding worth about RM144 billion were signed.

Describing it as the largest in history between the two countries, Syed Ali said the investment would see the construction of Bandar Malaysia, East Coast railway and purchase of assets for the Royal Malaysian Navy.

“Apart from job opportunities, it would also lead to transfer of technology in various fields and that would bring benefits to the country. This is why the opposition are afraid of PM's success," he said.

Syed Ali also rejected claims that the Malays are worried that the country is now close to China, by saying that the matter was politicised without any supporting facts.

It was reported yesterday that Najib is facing criticism at home after deals with China.
