Bersih chief Maria Chin Abdullah and political activist Hishamuddin Rais were questioned by police today over a Nov 5 ceramah in Parit Bakar, near Johor Bahru.

They arrived at about 9.30 at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters, and were questioned for nearly an hour by a police officer from Johor, said Hishammuddin.

He added that they were told that seven other individuals will be called in, including former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin who was also at the Bersih ceramah.

When contacted by Malaysiakini, Maria claimed that the ceramah organisers had already given due notice to cops, as required under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 (PAA).

"It is out right to organise a ceramah and we had already given notice to the police," she said.

Both of them were unaware under what law they were being investigated.

Neither Hishamuddin nor Maria were accompanied by legal counsel.
