Americans voted for Trump, but M’sians may not vote for 'kleptocrats'

YOURSAY | ‘Najib, voters in Malaysia should not be taken for granted, too.”

US election shows voters can’t be taken for granted, says Najib

Negarawan: Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election is partly because he is an anti-corruption crusader, and Americans see Hillary Clinton as corrupt.

This is something that Malaysians should be glad about, as it means the US Department of Justice and FBI will be fully empowered by the Trump administration to go after the perpetrators behind the 1MDB mega scandal.

The case will be expedited and investigations intensified. Trump must send a very strong message to MO1 (Malaysian Official 1) and his accomplices.

Vijay47: PM Najib Razak, the entire US election process, not just the results, is a lesson for all of us and especially for you and Umno.

Before Nov 8, there was no helpful organisation redrawing the electoral boundaries to ensure a particular candidate won. In fact, there was not a single squeak of cheating or rigging, not in a single one of the 50 states.

Candidates were free to travel anywhere they wanted to campaign, there were no helpful governors to prevent Republicans from entering their state.

There were no Jamals, the media was free, to take sides or be neutral, and journalists were not harassed by helpful police chiefs under charges of sedition.

Speaking of which, one could say anything he wanted about Trump or Clinton without the FBI picking him up under more charges of sedition.

Now that Trump has won, he is not going to block funds to the blue states but he may be cautious about who he plays golf with.

Gee whiz, these Americans sure take the fun out of parliamentary democracy.

JD Lovrenciear: So, Najib, please do not take Bersih 5 for granted because there are thousands of voters here.

Anonymous 1890491455255851: Yes, Mr Prime Minister. So far, you have been blissfully ignoring the sentiments of the people here.

Trump was seen to have brought out the ugliness in a big percentage of Americans. Does that sound familiar (red-shirts)?

Speechless: Agreed, voters should not be taken for granted or be expected to vote for kleptocrats.

SusahKes: Can't take voters for granted? Sure. Does that explain why you have beefed the already draconian security laws? Because you probably already know how voters here actually feel about you, Umno and BN.

In any case, in Malaysia, voters are always taken for granted. The electoral system is rigged in favour of Umno, so voters don't matter.

FellowMalaysian: Najib hails Trump's victory as having come from efforts focussed on the welfare of those neglected.

Is Najib telling us that he and his government are doing a better job when the rural people in Sabah and Sarawak and the Orang Asli, who together number millions, find it a burden to earn a decent living?

From Penang: Americans have proven to the world they are no better than others.

Racism in a way is the key success for Trump, as the majority accepted his immoral and bullying character. His ‘white’ supremacy is similar to the other supremacy here.

Gotcha: The PM now knows that voters cannot be taken for granted. All Malaysians must now wake up; we need a change badly.

Let's follow the American way and have a two-party system to ensure check and balance. One party ruling the country for 60 years is really too much, therefore there must be a change.

Python found at Malaysiakini premises

Anonymous Hotplate: The python is very much less dangerous than the red-shirts thugs who made so much of noise and littered the area outside the Malaysiakini office

Thank God the python did not get hold of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission’s (MCMC) officers when they raided Malaysiakini’s office.

Mosquitobrain: Holy cow! Even a python has sought refuge at Malaysiakini’s office. But the red-shirts and MCMC think otherwise.

JD Lovrenciear: On a lighter note, and going by the many things superstitious about Malaysians, this can be a good omen.

Victory for Malaysiakini. Liberating the mediascape is going to be the new hope. Hard luck, red-shirts and your shadow players.

Tok karut: Awww, I am sorry about chief mouser, Shotgun, but cats are pretty cool about danger. Where was the python when the red-shirts were there?

Snake-in-the-grass: Luckily it’s not a man-eating 7m-long monster. But even that would be no problem compared to the harassers who would love to swallow unpalatable porcupine-skinned Malaysiakini.

RKR: Malaysiakini seem to be getting all kind of creatures visiting these days.
