Why so slow, ex-Umno man asks cops on report against speaker
Khairuddin Abu Hassan has questioned why the police have not acted expeditiously over his report against Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia.
He said this was despite the police acting swiftly when NGO Jaringan Melayu Malaysia lodged a report on Oct 27 against former ministers Muhyiddin Yassin, Shafie Apdal and Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah.
“The IGP (Khalid Abu Bakar) sprang into action the next day by saying the police would investigate that report.
“However, when I lodged a report against the speaker, why was there no similar reaction from the police. Six days have passed and there is no demand by the police to meet the speaker.
“Where is the transparency and impartiality of the police,” added the former Batu Kawan Umno vice-chief when met at the sidelines of his court case in Kuala Lumpur.
Khairuddin had lodged a report against Pandikar for allegedly threatening the three former ministers who are also federal lawmakers.
This is over Pandikar's remark that Muhyiddin, Shafie and Ahmad Husni may have broken their purported oath of secrecy to cabinet when debating Budget 2017 in the House.
"As a Malaysian, I believe that Pandikar's statement was a form of threat and intimidation that (prevents) them from carrying out their duty to speak in Parliament as elected representatives," Khairuddin had said.
Khairuddin said since he lodged the report, police have not called him to record his statement.
His lawyer Mohd Haniff Khatri Abdulla said the report was lodged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 124C for unlawful interference in parliamentary democracy.
