Wanita MCA chief Heng Seai Kie today borrowed US president-elect Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again" slogan in an attempt to motivate party delegates ahead of the 14th general election.

Speaking at the 41st Wanita MCA annual general assembly (AGM), Heng emphasised the need to recapture lost ground in the last general election.

Heng then asked party delegates to show their commitment to this cause, urging them to stand up and asking "Are you ready?" thrice, to which the crowd responded with a resounding "Yes" every time.

She then said: "Let's Make MCA Great Again, Let's Make Wanita MCA Great Again".

Heng said there were lessons to be learnt from Trump's unexpected victory in the US presidential election.

"Trump's victory clearly tells us that voters cannot be taken for granted as they will not simply give away their valuable votes," she told delegates at the MCA headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

The AGM was streamed live on MCA's Facebook page.

In her speech, Heng also urged the government to stop sending students to study in countries that may promote the Islamic State (IS) ideology.

"While the police has been successful in curbing IS, we are reminded that they have infiltrated into our country, including in the military.

"I urge the government to stop sending students to Middle Eastern countries that promote IS elements in order to curb the spread of IS in this country," she said.
