Selangor PAS claimed that there were attempts to sabotage their Ledakan Suara Rakyat (Lasak) rally today through the distribution of flyers condemning the Bersih 5 rally.

One flyer read “Muslims must reject Bersih 5” because the Bersih movement allegedly insults Muslim scholars, while another flyer read “Gathering at a mosque was lebih bersih (cleaner) than a gathering to oppose syariah law”.

The flyers also accuse Bersih of being “sponsored by Jews”, “spearheaded by DAP and Amanah” and was a “vice-ridden gathering”.

"This is not from PAS. I don't know who put it on the seats. PAS is a 60-year-old party and this is not our culture," event chairperson Roslan Sharir said.

He said about 1,000 flyers were confiscated during the rally, which was held at Taman Medan, Petaling Jaya.

Selangor PAS commissioner Iskandar Samad speculated that the was the work of saboteurs.

"I have no issue (with Bersih). This is our event. Bersih has its way and we have our way to voice out the people's concern," he said.

He added if it turned out that Bersih had circulated the flyers themselves, then it shows that the electoral watchdog does need PAS to mobilise supporters for the Nov 19 rally.

Bersih earlier said it does not need PAS to ensure Malay turnout at the Bersih 5 rally.

The Bersih 4 rally was criticised as a "Chinese rally", as most of the roughly 100,000 protesters who turned up were ethnic Chinese.

Bersih 5, which will see a march from Dataran Maybank in Bangsar to Dataran Merdeka in downtown Kuala Lumpur.

Organisers are demanding clean elections, clean government, empowerment of Sabah and Sarawak, the right to dissent and the strengthening of Parliament.
