A senior PAS leader has urged Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to remain focused on the country's economic troubles, rather than waste time criticising political moves made by his rivals.

The people are placing their hopes on Najib, as finance minister as well, to at least table a plan that could allay concerns of the plunging ringgit due to uncertainties following election of Donald Trump as the next US president.

"The people need to know what are the government's measures to control the rise of inflation and cost of living, should the ringgit fall to RM5 for US$1.

"The Bank Negara reserves as of Oct 31 are at RM405.5 billion (US$97.8 billion). How much has been used last Friday, when the ringgit's value plunged to RM4.72 before recovering at RM4.40?" Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man asked.

The PAS deputy president also questioned the government's decision to reject a request from the Swiss authorities for mutual legal assistance into their investigations linked to state-investment fund 1MDB.

"Wouldn't this cooperation help to improve international perception towards Malaysia?

"And what about the government's reaction to a statement by Singapore's White Collar Crime Unit that identified billionaire Low Taek Jho as a key person in its money-laundering investigations linked to 1MDB?" Tuan Ibrahim asked.

Najib in his speech at the MCA's 63rd annual general meeting yesterday took swipes at the latest opposition pact between Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and Pakatan Harapan.

Among others, he described the relationship as being a "hypocrisy at its highest level", given the past animosity between Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad and DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang.

"This is politics of U-turn. How many times have they U-turned?

"I think they have lost their direction. Too many times. Not only are the rakyat confused, they (the opposition) are confused," Najib reportedly said in urging the Chinese community to support BN.
