PAS does not support Umno on all aspects, the Islamic party’s president Abdul Hadi Awang said today.

“There are some aspects that we support (Umno), and there are some that we don’t. It is not a total endorsement (of Umno),” Hadi told reporters in Parliament.

The Marang MP was responding to a question on whether PAS supported Umno.

This was in relation to a statement by Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who claimed that those who supported Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak could have received certain rewards.

Asked if it was appropriate for the former prime minister to make such an accusation, Hadi opted for a diplomatic response, saying, “It is up to him.”

Without mentioning any names, Mahathir had claimed that those who created problems against Pakatan Harapan were actually supporters of Najib.

“Don't say that you don’t agree with Pakatan Harapan because DAP is in it. That’s a lie.

“It’s not because of that. I, too, was a sworn enemy of (DAP leader) Lim Kit Siang,” chairperson of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) had said.

The Islamic party, which kept its distance from Pakatan Harapan since the demise of Pakatan Rakyat in June 2015, has been in contact with Bersatu.

PAS Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz was skeptical about Bersatu's seriousness in collaborating with PAS because the Umno's splinter party issued different statements.

"I don't know if they are serious," he said at Parliament lobby earlier today.

The first Pakatan Harapan convention which concluded last Saturday was meant to chart a course for the fractured opposition but after the convention, its direction has not become any clearer.

Mixed signals came out from the convention, such as Mahathir stressing that his party president Muhyiddin Yassin was committed to joining hands with Pakatan Harapan, but the latter announced a postponement on formalising the cooperation.
