State executive councillor Chow Kon Yeow has been slammed for dragging the name of a former Penang chief minister under Gerakan, Dr Lim Chong Eu, into the current floods that are hitting the state.

Penang Gerakan coordinator for Padang Kota, H'ng Khoon Leng, said it was regrettable that Chow had "arrogantly" tried to drag the late Penang elder statesman into the matter.

"Chow, as the exco member in charge of flood mitigation, the local assemblyman for Pengkalan Kota in the 1990s and the MP for Tanjong from 1999 to 2013, should be well aware of the S10 and S18 flood mitigation projects started by the BN government," H'ng said in a statement.

"The major flood projects are currently being maintained and upgraded by the current state government," he added.

H'ng was referring to Chow's statement on on Nov 14 on the flood mitigation project at Transfer Road.

Chow reportedly said, "It was not resolved, even when it was the then chief minister's (Dr Lim Chong Eu’s) constituency and it was still not resolved when it was under (the state BN chief) Teng Chang Yeow's constituency."

H'ng said instead of focusing on the current flood situation, the "incoming CM of Penang" was shifting the current floods woes affecting many areas to merely a current flood mitigation project in town.

Chow is Penang CM-designate, to replace Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng if Lim fails to defend himself against his two corruption charges related to the alleged undervalued purchase of a two-storey bungalow on Jalan Pinhorn.

"It is hoped that Chow will change the current DAP government’s style of pushing blames to others and claiming all the credit," H'ng added.

The BN has continued to criticise Lim for blaming the previous government, led by Gerakan, for the state's failed policies and for claiming credit for himself for those that have been successful.
