Barely an hour after the Penang legislative assembly convened this morning, speaker Law Choo Kiang warned two representatives from DAP and Umno that he would eject both for disrupting House proceedings.

Law found the duo - RSN Rayer (DAP-Seri Delima) and Roslan Saidin (BN-Pinang Tunggal) - to be disrupting the House during a question-and-answer session.

The slight banter happened when state executive councillor for health, Dr Afif Bahardin, was answering a written question on his portfolio.

Rayer intervened to ask a question but went on to make a commentary about the recent fire incident in Johor’s Hospital Sultan Aminah, which claimed six lives on Oct 26.

Suddenly, Rayer shouted at Roslan not to be “kurang ajar” (rude) when the latter gestured for him to sit down.

Roslan wanted Rayer to ask a question instead of prolonging his commentary.

A shouting match ensued with Rayer repeatedly saying “Jangan kurang ajar”, prompting Law to warn the duo to stop their antics.

“I would ask both of you to leave,” Law warned, raising his voice.

The duo then calmed down and Rayer proceeded to ask his question, which he said was for the benefit of Penangites.

“Has a safety audit been done to our hospitals in Penang so that we do not have a similar incident like Johor?

“What about the parking problem at the Penang General Hospital, especially for senior citizens and people with disabilities as they have to park their vehicles far away or at crossroads with heavy vehicles which may be dangerous to their lives,” Rayer said.

The two assemblypersons are no strangers to such controversies.

In July, the duo were also warned by Law to not cause provocation and disrupt the House proceedings.
