The use of the MyKad for entry into Sarawak and Sabah will begin on July 1, Minister in Prime Minister's Department Dr Maximus J Ongkili said.
He said the proposal would be presented to Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud and Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman next month.
The trial usage of MyKad for arrivals in Sarawak from May 1 and in Sabah from last Monday had gone well except for minor technical problems when the card could not be read by the scanning machines, a
Bernama
report quoted the minister as saying.
Speaking to reporters at the Kuching International Airport yesterday, Ongkili said he discounted the perception that MyKad usage would presumably erode the immigration rights and powers vested with Sabah and Sarawak, adding that it was just an up-to-date procedure to speed up arrivals and departures.
A visitor using the MyKad will not have to complete the IMM114 Form when entering Sarawak or Sabah.
