Dr Mahathir Mohamad's blossoming political alliance with his former chief critic Lim Kit Siang is a classic case of a political "U-turn", said Umno supreme council member Abdul Rahman Dahlan.

He said this in his response to Lim's latest statement that labelled Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak as the "U-turn King" over how the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) could be applied.

However, Rahman said the "U-turn King" title should be bestowed on the DAP leader because he was now allied with the former prime minister, despite decades of bitter animosity.

"That title should be exclusively yours with your new found 'bromance' with Tun M, who you used to call the most corrupted PM ever and forever," the minister wrote on Twitter.

Earlier today, Lim's statement quoted parts of the Hansard to support his position that Sosma was meant to be used exclusively on terrorism related matters.

This was in view of the use of Sosma to arrest Maria Chin Abdullah, the leader of electoral reform pressure group Bersih.

When Sosma was passed in 2012, then law minister Nazri Abdul Aziz told Parliament that the law was to be applied to terrorism-related cases and threats of terrorism.

Lim said if Najib's administration was unable to fulfil its pledge to Parliament, then the prime minister was untrustworthy and should be given the title "U-turn King".
