Shah Alam MP Khalid Abdul Samad's defamation suit against former Selangor exco member Hasan Mohamed Ali will go for trial on Monday, after final efforts at mediation failed today.

The case will be heard before Justice Hue Siew Kheng.

Khalid's lawyer Faiz Fadzil said while both of them were present today before the deputy registrar, they failed to reach a settlement through mediation, which included an apology and damages.

The suit was filed in April this year by Faiz's law firm following Hasan, in a 2012, video claiming Khalid supported the illicit sale of alcohol, existence of gambling outlets and massage parlours in Selangor four years ago.

The Shah Alam MP, who is currently Parti Amanah Negara communications director, claimed the defamatory words were uttered during a talk at Dewan Rukun Tetangga Seksyen 17, Shah Alam, in 2012.

He claimed the video of the speech was later edited and uploaded on YouTube, which could be easily accessed by the public.

Khalid also claimed that the words spoken by Hasan were baseless, untrue and damaging to his reputation, image and good name.

The plaintiff also alleged that Hasan's defamatory statement implied that he was an anti-Islam leader and betrayed the religion by defending the sale of alcohol, and the setting up of gambling centres and massage parlours which were against the teachings of Islam.
