PKR deputy president Azmin Ali has urged Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to recognise the need for more democratic space.

"What is required now is for the government to provide more democratic space in Malaysia.

"I think that is the demand which is a basis for any democratic country in the world now," Azmin told reporters in Shah Alam today.

He expressed hope that Zahid would learn to appreciate the principles of democracy in order to create more democratic space.

Azmin was responding to Zahid, who likened the propaganda efforts by leaders of Nazi Germany with that of Malaysia's opposition.

Zahid said this during his opening speech for the annual assemblies of Umno's three party wings last night.

Meanwhile, Azmin urged Putrajaya to review its long-standing non-inteference policy over Myanmar's treatment of the Rohingya community.

He said the plight of the Rohingya community was a humanitarian crisis and Malaysia can no longer be bystanders.

"PKR have came out with very strong condemnation and we hope Aung San Suu Kyi must speak up.

"Asean can no longer maintain its non-inteference policy because that policy is obsolete when it comes to the issues of people's livelihood and security," he said.
