Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar has instructed his men to probe a Twitter post which claimed that Umno was responsible for "ethnic cleansing".

In a tweet this afternoon, Khalid ordered the Police Cyber Investigation Response Centre (PCIRC) to identify the author of the post and take action against him.

"(The author) was making seditious statements and abusing social media," wrote Khalid.

At the time of writing, the Twitter account of the suspect, who uses the handle @bvadivel, could not be accessed.

The author had claimed that the 1969 race riot and the Taman Medan race riot were examples of "ethnic cleansing" perpetrated by "Umno Nazis".

This follows a speech on Tuesday by Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who likened the opposition's tactic with those employed by the leaders of Nazi Germany.

In recent years, Khalid has been actively tweeting instructions for the PCIRC to pursue Twitter users who allegedly cross the line.

One prominent case saw human rights lawyer Eric Paulsen being charged with violating the Sedition Act 1948 over his tweet about a Friday sermon.
