An aide to the PAS president has given his assurance that Abdul Hadi Awang is well aware of Umno's tricks despite both parties having shared the stage at a Rohingya issue protest and working together to amend Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965, or Act 355.

"Has PAS been played around by Umno? I understand the concern of our friends when they look at the (political) game between PAS and Umno," said Ahmad Shamsuri Mokhtar, political secretary to Hadi.

"Don't worry. We all know that Umno is drowning and looking for a political saviour. Umno can be two-faced, as usual.

"Hadi is aware and wise about Umno's tricks, as (he is) about the same age of Umno. PAS leadership and Hadi have known Umno, not for one or two days but for few decades," Ahmad Shamsuri said.

Najib had said that the Rohingya gathering proved the party could work together with PAS on "common issues", without needing to establish a political pact.

The government again put forward Hadi's motion on the Private Member's Bill on Act 355 in Parliament, to empower the syariah court.

Najib in his policy speech to the Umno general assembly on Dec 1 announced that government would "take over" Hadi's motion and would seek to amend Act 355.

PAS leaders, including its information chief Nasrudin Hassan, have assured its supporters that PAS would not join Umno or combine with the country's biggest Malay party.
