YOURSAY | ‘Leaders are not to be protected from criticism, be they the PM or opposition leaders.’

IGP tells Zunar to draw Donald Duck instead of insulting leaders

Tholu: Your argument, Mr IGP, is totally ridiculous and ludicrous and reeks of personal anger towards cartoonist Zunar. Could it be because he also frequently draws caricatures of you tweeting on the phone?

Coincidently, isn’t Zunar the one who first labelled you as Katia Twitter Negara? And one other thing, Mr IGP, why are you poking your nose where it doesn't belong?

Politicians arguing and making fun of one another should not be of any concern to the police.

Vijay47: Your versatility is much to be admired, inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar.

Without fail, you assure the nation of your commitment to harass the opposition, your forgiving nature when it comes to Umno and its corps of thugs, thieves, and crooks, or child kidnappers, the dexterity with which you send out your countless Twitter messages, your skills at denial, and all this wrapped up in your inimitable efforts at humour. We are all rolling in the aisles.

You most charitably wonder about Lim Guan Eng's possible reaction if he were the object of Zunar's artistry. You are way off the mark - the question is what your response would be. Nothing.

You jump up on your horse, sirens blazing, only when your political master is correctly but unfavourably described by Zunar and the world. We are glad you say you do not practise double standards, since so far we have not seen much evidence of it.

Your suggestion that Zunar should draw Donald Duck smacks of vanity - why in heaven's name would Zunar want to draw cartoons of you?

P Dev Anand Pillai: It is a real pity to know that we have a police chief who thinks that political cartoons and satire are insulting and demeaning.

It is universally accepted that if one were to be in a position of power, criticism in any form will follow. That is part and parcel of being in power.

Anonymous 1689721435778173: There have been occasions when worse things have been done to the Penang CM, like holding a funeral for him outside his house, faeces sent to him at his office, etc, but we have not heard of any prosecution by the police.

Also, seditious and racist remarks or speeches are made by people related to Umno, but the police appear to be slow to act or not act at all. On the other hand, a hint of a seditious remark uttered by someone related to the opposition and the police are on to that person like a flash.

Take the speeches made at the ongoing Umno general assembly. Many of them were racist and yet do we hear of any police action? People are very frustrated by the double standards practised by the police.

Khalid may want to deny it until the cows come home but this is what the public see.

Anonymous 1890491455255851: Leaders are not to be protected from criticism, be they the PM or opposition leaders. They are public officials who are there to serve the interests of the people and not the other way around.

The IGP obviously has got it in his head that Malaysia is a dictatorship and he is the chief whip with the mandate to go around arresting, charging and intimidating those who speak against the ruling government. Now that is no laughing matter.

Richard-D: In other democracies, leaders are lampooned, cartooned, satirised and mocked. See the cartoons on George Bush, Margaret Thatcher, Barack Obama, and many, many more.

But they were strong leaders. They answered criticism with argument. Our prime minister says he has "nothing to hide", and then hides behind a lawyer and a tweeting IGP. Of course, people will mock him - and rightly so.

Umno MP wants transport minister to be from Umno

Trueglitter: Liow Tiong Lai, it is apparent the undercurrents within Umno-led BN are fast eroding your position as transport minister, hence the emboldened emergence of Jasin MP Ahmad Hamzah to unprecedentedly suggest that your ministry be given to someone in Umno.

Clearly, it is an ominous reflection of utter disrespect and abandonment of the importance of your contributions as minister. As MCA president, you should maintain your dignity and not grovel to Najib to retain your ministerial status.

The eyes of the unforgiving Chinese are earnestly awaiting your response to the unpalatable and demeaning request, as invariably, their own dignity through your representation as party president will be at stake.

It will do you well to be reminded that your status and position in life as a politician should not be the sole criterion that will determine all your decision-makings, for more importantly, it is the delivery of your decisions which must come with dignity and honour.

CQ Muar: Surely the coalition partners of Umno-led BN, such as MCA, MIC and Gerakan, are not that dumb and myopic as to ignore Ahmad Hamzah’s message?

Being momentarily ignorant and stupid is excusable, but to continue to remain so is beyond pardon. You are doing those few who voted for you in the last GE gross injustice.

Having you as ministers in an Umno-dominated cabinet is absolutely an eyesore to many of them, given your pathetic showing in the last two GEs. Your appointment was to console you and retain your continued support in order that they continue to allegedly plunder the nation.

As such, do wake up to reality. How long do you intend to continue deceiving yourselves that you're doing the right thing? Do think out of the box and look beyond the forest.

Quit and forge for change for the sake of the future generations, and stop the gloom ahead. Perhaps this will be seen as a blessing in disguise someday.

Gaji Buta: In reality, it probably does not matter who the ministers are, since the country is on auto-pilot. How many minutes in a day do the ministers actually spend doing the work they are elected for?

Most likely, they spend all their time on their own business interests and see where the next opportunity to enrich themselves will be coming from. Their jobs have been taken over by 'consultants' or outsourced.

Mushiro: Umno held the Finance Ministry through Najib and he turned Malaysia into a kleptocracy.

Malaysia can only survive if China invests in our ports, railways, Bandar Malaysia, Iskandar Corridor and many more. Very soon, Umno ministers will have to report directly to China.
