Voters have been registered to vote in constituencies which are different to their registered addresses, PKR’s Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh said.

Fuziah said her office has received five complaints, while checks with a neighbouring state constituency found dozens more.

In fact, she said, there are also voters registered twice, in separate constituencies.

“This mistake could change the election result in marginal areas where the winning majority is very slim,” she said in a statement.

In a letter to the Pahang Election Commission (EC) dated yesterday, she said one of the complainants lives just above her service centre, which is under the Teruntum state constituency, and Kuantan parliament constituency.

However, the voter was registered under the Beserah state constituency and Indera Mahkota parliament constituency.

Pahang EC deputy director Ahmad Fadzli Suhaimi admitted in an earlier meeting this was an EC error, she said.

As such, she urged the EC to make a public announcement over the matter and to rectify the mistakes in the next two weeks.

The error might not be isolated to Pahang, she said.

“Failure to do so will show how the EC is not serious in ensuring electoral roll integrity; this can negate the results of the next general election,” she said.

Political parties are gearing up for the 14th general election, which could be called after the redelineation process is complete.

The EC is now conducting public hearings of objections as part o the redelineation process.
