Rehearsal for Agong's send off ceremony runs smoothly

The rehearsal for the sending off ceremony of the 14th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Haminah, today went smoothly.

It was held at three locations, namely Anjung Utama of Istana Negara; the Parliament Square and the Bunga Raya Complex at the KL International Airport (KLIA).

Assistant Grand Chamberlain at Istana Negara, Azuan Effendi Zairakithnaini, said the rehearsal, which started at 8am, included a guard of honour by Unit 1 of the Royal Ranger Regiment.

"The rehearsal went according to plan. Everything was planned since six months ago," he said when met by Bernama during the rehearsal at Istana Negara, Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur.

Also present at today's full-rehearsal was Communications and Multimedia Minister, Salleh Said Keruak, who is also chairperson of the special committee to monitor the smooth flow of the ceremony.

At the Parliament Square, the sending off ceremony would involve the 'Royal Salute', as well as handshake by cabinet ministers and dignitaries.

The ceremony at the Bunga Raya Complex would involve an elephant procession and cultural performance.

Tuanku Abdul Halim will end his term as the 14th Yang di-Pertuan Agong tomorrow and will be replaced by the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V.

He recorded national history when he became the Yang di-Pertuan for the second time in 2012 after being installed for the first time in 1970.

The 243rd Meeting (Special) of the Conference of Rulers elected Sultan Muhammad V as the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong effective Dec 13 for a five-year period.

The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, was elected as the Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong for the same period
