AMANAH AGM Amanah communications director Khalid Samad today reprimanded a delegate for putting pressure on their allies to remove "thorns in the flesh" of the Selangor government.

Khalid was referring to an earlier speech by delegate Jamzuri Ardani who urged Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali remove PAS members in the state bureaucracy for causing problems for Amanah at the grassroots level.

While not mentioning names, Khalid reminded delegates not to bring the "old party's DNA" into Amanah, which was founded by former PAS leaders.

"If we want to strengthen Pakatan Harapan, we cannot term such as 'thorns in the flesh'. Do you think people like to be condemned? Is this how Harapan is to be strengthened?

"Don't bring the old party's DNA here. When you say things like that, it sounds like the old party... If we want to strengthen Harapan and want other parties to unite with us, we must be open to discussion," he said at the Amanah convention in Shah Alam today.

Curious situation

Earlier, Jamzuri had complained about bureaucracy, allegedly caused by PAS members, calling them "thorns in the state government's flesh" and warned that Harapan could lose seats in the next election because of this.

"Should Amanah fail to win enough seats, we fear the menteri besar will be sitting in the opposition bench after the election.

"Thorns in the state government's flesh must be gotten rid off immediately," he warned.

The break up of Pakatan Rakyat following last year's PAS muktamar has left the PKR-led Pakatan Selangor government in a curious situation.

While the Penang government comprises the new Pakatan Harapan partners PKR, DAP and Amanah, Azmin has maintained PAS in his administration despite the Islamic party not being part of the new coalition.

PAS also officially broke ties with Pakatan partner DAP at its 2015 muktamar, which was a fiery affair that also subsequently led to the departure of its progressive members to form Amanah.
