A member of the national basketball team performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an unconscious man at the Hong Kong airport recently.

The incident was captured on video and uploaded online by Malaysian Basketball Association (Maba) president Lua Choon Hann.

"Proud of you, Mohd Shadzwan Kamalrulzaman. Saving a life at Hong Kong airport," reads Lua's caption for the video.

In the video, a man is seen lying unconscious on the ground, as another man, who appears to be an airport personnel, holds his mouth open.

Shadzwan, a medical doctor, is shown pressing down on the man's chests rhythmically, as a woman stood next to him urges him to go "faster, faster".

About halfway through the video, which lasts less than a minute, the man recovers.

Someone can be heard saying "lift the neck" several times as the airport personnel turned the unconscious man to his side.

The Malaysian basketball team was in Hong Kong for the 21st Super Kung Sheung Cup International Basketball Invitation Championship, to be held on Dec 13 to 18.

Lips turned blue

Mohd Shazwan said he rushed to assist when he heard a woman scream for help.

"I saw his lips already turned blue and his mouth was foaming," he said.

He said the man started to react after CPR was administered and regained conciousness as medical assistance arrived.

The national basketball men's team head coach, Goh Cheng Huat, said they were on the way out of the airport when someone called for help.

One of their players immediately got Shadzwan to help, he said.

"So I decided to video his very good deed. The guy survived but without Shadzwan's quick action, something unfortunate might have happened," Goh said.
