MCA to haul up rep over Perlis child conversion law

Anonymous_1424794168: Shame on Perlis Titi Tinggi assemblyperson Khaw Hock Kong. It is an absolutely selfish decision, without taking into regard what would happen to the converted poor child when he or she grows up.

At least with both parents consenting, that's different. And it is totally inconsistent with the Federal Constitution. This country is getting dumb and dumber.

Demi Rakyat: Khaw walked out in protest? Actually, it is an act of cowardice and betrayal to Malaysia and Malaysians.

He should be sacked immediately. Khaw is a total disgrace, a traitor to race, religion and country.

Korkor: If Khaw were to vote for the bill, he would be punished by voters. If he were to vote against the bill, he would be punished by BN.

So, the best way out, which is MCA's renowned tactic, is to walk out and couldn't care less about what is to be voted on, so later he can give the excuse he was not in the assembly.

SusahKes: Abstaining. That's the MCA way. If you recall, they were also in Parliament - and in government - when former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad declared that Malaysia is an Islamic state. And they kept quiet.

Yet, they keep harping on the hudud issue that was pushed by PAS, but chose to ignore the jumbo-sized elephant in the room - Umno.

Now, Khaw abstained, while on the other hand, party chief Liow Tiong Lai & Co gave us some dramatic, verbal blah-blah-blah on the sanctity of the constitution.

Does MCA have any idea of just how idiotic it looks? The leaders probably do. But the seductive daze from being intoxicated by cabinet and government posts is just too overwhelming.

RR: The interpretation on ‘parent’ in the Federal Constitution includes plurality because a child, until he or she reaches 18 years of age, is under the care and custody of both parents, unless the parents are divorced and the child or children are under the custody of a single parent.

The Perlis state assembly representatives must have at least some common sense, if not at least some knowledge of the law. Umno, as usual, is playing a double game with PAS.

Vision2020: This is a classic example of how a state government of one majority race forces religion onto public space without respecting the constitutional rights, sensitivities and religious practices of the minorities.

A good majority government is a government that practises fairness and justice, but the Umno-BN government has relentlessly failed to honour fairness and justice for the sake of political mileage.

MCA has never, and will never, speak up. If Liow and MCA are serious, please sack Khaw.

Kubang: So much for muafakat or mutual benefit. On the one hand, Umno is patting its coalition partners on their heads and assuring them that hudud will not affect non-Muslims; on the other hand, it is working hand in glove with PAS to ram through this amendment.

Day by sorrowful day, Malaysia is slipping down a slippery slope, no thanks to Umno's duplicity and political expediency.

They are only there to be ministers, for the sake of the power and the enormous wealth that comes with it. The perks are obscene and no way are they going to leave the cabinet.

6th Generation Immigrant: This amendment did not just appear overnight, it would have been scheduled (perhaps even discreetly without MCA's involvement, though they are part of BN) so that Umno and PAS would readily vote for it.

As far as the Chinese are concerned, those who had held on to MCA with the hope of its "influence in BN", this failure will finally break the camel's back.

The MCA Youth’s protest against DAP over the hudud issue in Selangor missed this elephant in the room - it should have been held in Perlis.

Appum: Day after day, month after month, year after year, the rakyat have urged you to leave the BN and join forces with the opposition. Yet you chose to stay back to enjoy the positions and perks.

You always say you are more effective working on the inside. Really? With all these happening and the disparaging attitudes towards MCA from Umno, MCA still chooses to stay. For what? Pride?

Come on, MCA, don't be so disgusting. If you have dignity and care for your community, you should have left BN. See, your local assemblyperson does not know what to do when it comes to the crunch. He just walked out, which is as good as giving up.

Why is it PKR can vote against the amendment and MCA can't, especially on an issue you tell us you opposed so strongly?

Let us see what you are going to do or how you will act when Umno proposes the 'hudud bill' next in Parliament. Let us see if you can work from the inside to prevent such a bill from being introduced by your ‘tai kor’ and his mistress.

If this bill sees the light of day, it means MCA is bunkum. What will you do then, blame it on DAP?

TheAnonymous: MCA can blame DAP until the cows come home, but in reality you're a hollow vessel yourself.

MCA, or MIC for that matter, have never taken a stand that could even remotely be construed to be not in line with Umno's sentiments; you are so terrified of offending your political masters. The most you do is to abstain during the vote.

On the rare occasion that you express something that could seem independent, it is inevitably, inexplicably accompanied by some passionate criticism of DAP, however unrelated that party may be to the issue at hand.

If at all you were driven by principles, MCA would have long ago come out with a strong condemnation of 1MDB, let alone issues that touch on the religious freedom, practices, and justice of non-Muslims.

So Ka Siong, give us a break, 'Wee' are not buying it.
