A song by Malaysian singer Yunalis Mat Zara'ai, better known as Yuna, has been shortlisted for an Oscar nomination for best original song.

The song, titled "On Ghost Ridge", was among 91 songs shortlisted for Oscar nominations, according to entertainment site IndieWire.

Five of the songs will be nominated for the 89th Academy Awards.

The nominations will be announced on January 24 next year. The awards will take place on Feb 27, 2017.

"On Ghost Ridge" was written and produced by Emmy Awards-winning composer Nicholas Pike.

The song was featured in the documentary "100 Years: One Woman's Fight For Justice".

The documentary revolves around Elouise Pepion Cobell, or "Yellow Bird Woman", a Native American activist who challenged the US government's mismanagement of trust funds for Native Americans.

This was not the first time a song sang by Yuna was shortlisted for an Oscar nomination.

"Shine Your Way" was shortlisted with 74 other songs for nominations at the 86th Academy Awards.

It was sang by Yuna and American band Owl City.

The song was featured in the animated film "The Croods" but was not nominated.
