The federal and state governments have been ticked off for hypocrisy in Islamic posturing but not acting to help minority communities such as the Orang Asli.

"The time has come for us to practice Islamic teachings and its true values.

"Talking about Islamic teachings isn't the same as emulating true Islamic teachings in relation to governing the people," said Kuala Terengganu MP Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad in a statement.

He was commenting on Putrajaya's public display of solidarity with the Rohingya Muslims, but not doing right by minorities at home.

"The Prophet acted fairly towards all who were under the Islamic government, including the minority non-Muslims.

"How are the federal and state governments to emulate true Islamic principles, when they deny the rights of the minorities?" he asked.

Over the past weeks Kelantan's Gua Musang Orang Asli have been arrested for erecting blockades to stop loggers from destroying their forests, on which they depend for a living.

The PAS-led state government insists logging is vital as the state's main source of income.

Native Americans better off

Raja Bahrin pointed out even in the US, the Native Americans have their own designated reservation lands, enacted by law.

Malaysia, he said, was on the other hand only interested in public displays, for example showing solidarity with the Rohingya while telling minorities here to "go back to their own country".

"Recently, leaders of the federal government and a certain political party held a rally at a stadium to call for protection of the minority Muslim Rohingya (of Myanmar).

"However they did not agree to debating the matter in Parliament as had been suggested earlier," said Raja Bahrin.

"A few days later, the army then headed to Myanmar to attempt to 'normalise' ties," he added.

The MP said Putrajaya has the power under its laws to protect and take care of its own minorities.

"The state government on their end also have power over the land that is occupied by the Orang Asli since ages and ages ago, to give them the rights to the land that they deserve,' he said.
