The parties in Pakatan Harapan are united only in slandering the government, according to Umno lawmaker Anuar Manap.

However, he said when it comes to the allocation of electoral seats, the scenario is different.

He said new parties such as Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) are hoping for "sympathy" from their more established allies in order to field their candidates in the general election.

"It is certain that the respective parties would argue they are more qualified to contest in a particular constituency in their efforts to ensure the success of their respective agendas," he told Umno Online.

The Sekijang MP predicted that the crisis would prolong despite the parties appearing to have brought the matter to the negotiation table.

Anuar is certain the top priority for PKR and DAP would be to make way for their allies in seats which the two parties know are difficult to win.

"Perhaps these would be the constituencies given to the new parties.

"However, it is not certain that an agreement would be reached similar to what happened during the Sarawak state election, when they contested against each other," he added.

During the Sarawak election in May, DAP and PKR fielded their respective candidates in six seats, and were defeated in all of them.

DAP and PKR leaders traded barbs over the matter, and blamed each other for the predicament.

Earlier this month, Harapan and Bersatu inked an electoral pact to ensure straight fights against BN in the next general election.

Apart from seats, the opposition is also facing problems with regard to naming a prime minister candidate should the coalition seize federal power in the polls.
