In light of recent developments with regard to the Football Association of Selangor (FAS), the Selangor Raja Muda has told its executive committee to step down.

“We need a breath of fresh air. The rich history of the Red Giants needs to be upheld and fought for.

“Time is limited and if the current exco line-up aren't able to improve the situation within a short space of time, I suggest for them to respectfully move aside for a new competent team to revive the ailing organisation.

“Subsequently, I request that the FAS president to introduce a new line-up that is independent of politics, based on merit, fresh, full of energy and capable of achieving results.”

Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin, who said that news on FAS had got him “very worried”, had made the request which was posted on his Instagram account.

“I have also personally read the plight and comments from the fans of the Red Giants on my social media platforms who share the same concern as me,” he added.

FAS deputy president Abdul Mokhtar Ahmad on Tuesday was reported as saying that the association may have to withdraw the Red Giants from the Malaysian Super League next year.

This is a final resort, if the team management budget submitted to Selangor Menteri Besar and FAS president Mohd Azmin Ali is not approved, Mokhtar had said.

The association had requested RM15 million for the next season.

Meanwhile, suggesting a major revamp towards FAS, the Selangor Raja Muda stressed that excessive politics, old-fashioned way of doing things and over dependency on subsidy mentality need to be removed.

The revamp, he added, involves a thorough look at the entire structure of the organisation, starting with updating the constitution to make it relevant with the current times.

Apart from strategising the first team, development of youth football and supporting facilities around the state must also be emphasised, he said.

“Plus also adopting a comprehensive sports marketing approach that will enable the organisation to earn a sustainable income for the future,” he added.
