The Malaysian Consumers Association (Maconas) has refuted the Land Public Transport Commission's (Spad) claim that an increase in express bus fares will lead to fewer bus crashes, saying this makes no sense.

"Increasing bus fares in this current economic climate is not the right thing to do when people are trying to struggle with daily needs and the cost of living, which is high.

"Paying a higher salary will also not guarantee that there will be fewer accidents," Maconas president Amarjit Singh Gill said in a statement today.
