Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen today clarified that the party is not negotiating with PKR to contest the Miri seat, as reported by local media.

Chong said the Miri seat was never discussed when he met with Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian at a Christmas event on Monday.

This despite Baru saying that there are several seat swap proposals made, including for Miri, according to The Borneo Post.

"If there is any party that feels less of a winning chance in a certain seat and is willing to surrender the seat, then we three parties will discuss which party should contest.

"This is not seat swapping, but consideration of which party is more winnable," he said in a statement.

The Bandar Kuching MP said the 2013 general election allocation in the now defunct Pakatan Rakyat stands, with seats contested by PAS to be contested by Amanah.

This means DAP will contest 11 parliamentary seats, PKR 15 while Amanah will contest five in Sarawak.

"I believe this suggestion will not be argued. Let's follow the 13th general election arrangement to fight BN.

"This can save us alot of unnecessary arguments, so we can focused and united against BN," he said.

He said the meeting with PKR next month should therefore focus on strategies to fight BN, "not whom to contest which seat".

Earlier, a local Chinese language daily speculated that PKR would trade Miri for DAP's Stampin.

Baru said several proposals were made, and the matter will be discussed in January.
