Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) is showing its true colours by looking to take over seats belonging to PKR despite both being allies in the Pakatan Harapan opposition pact, PAS claims.

The Islamic party vice-president Iskandar Samad said today Amanah's hijack of the PKR seats showed that what PAS had said about the splinter party was now proven true.

"Now they want to steal PKR's seats. This shows what we had said about Amanah is true.

"This is why we call them PAN, it does not show amanah (trust) if they sit (together with PKR) in Harapan and yet want to steal their seats..." Iskandar said at a press conference at PAS' headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

PAS has continued to accuse Amanah of being untrusworty betrayers.

Iskandar was referring to Amanah information chief Khalid Samad's statement yesterday that the party was looking to contest in 40 seats in the next general election, mainly PAS' traditional seats, as well as several contested by PKR.

Khalid had said that 'traditional ownership' of seats are no longer relevant in today's political scenario, adding that he would bring the matter up next month, at Harapan's meeting with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia on seat allocations, next month.

PAS membership drive

Iskandar also announced the launch of the "PAS Pilihanku" or "PAS is my choice" membership drive to recruit more members into the fold before GE14.

He said PAS was targeting to recruit 131,226 new members within four months, which would represent a 15 percent increase in each division and branch.

However, Iskandar denied that it was launching the campaign to counter or address threats posed against it by other parties.

Previously, Amanah had been blamed for trying to entice PAS members, as well as sparking a small exodus of members from the party.

The membership drive, Iskandar said, was part of PAS' move towards mature political solutions, and based on feedback that there were many who were interested in joining the party.

Some of the states that would be the focus for the programme are Kedah, Kelantan and Selangor, he added.
