Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali has been advised by a Selangor Umno leader not to speak about economic matters, lest he displays his alleged ineptitude in the subject.

“Mathematicians should stay quiet and do their sums, don’t talk about the economy if you lack the expertise.

“We are not talking about the value of RM600 to the individual, but on the total impact of the injection of RM5 billion into the market,” Selangor Umno vice-information chief Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan was quoted as saying by the BN Backbencher's Club portal.

He argued that Azmin should look at how the BR1M as a whole could stimulate the economy.

“How come he, as a former Finance Ministry staff member and an MB who is fond of a surplus budget, doesn’t know about the chain effect of having an extra RM5 billion in the market,” he said.

Mat Nadzari was commenting on Azmin’s statement that BR1M is akin to political bribery, echoing former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad who called it the biggest example of graft in the country.

“If the aid is supposed to stimulate the economy, it won’t do so. RM600 can be spent in two days,” said the PKR deputy president.

Mat Nazari believe that whatever the case, Azmin will still defend Mahathir’s view, even when this contradict what PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail who had refuted Mahathir’s view that BR1M is a form of bribery.

He alleged that Azmin has a special relationship with the good doctor since long ago when he was a student, which may even supplant his links to PKR.
