Kuala Nerus MP Khairuddin Aman Razali said his presence at an Umno club function in London on Tuesday was just one of several other events he was participating in the United Kingdom.

According to Khairuddin, he and another PAS MP, Mohd Izani Husin (Pengkalan Chepa), were on a tour to engage Malaysians living in the UK and have more than 10 programmes planned.

"Among them was a programme to explain the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) (Amendment) Bill 2016 (RUU355) to Malaysians in London on Dec 27 through the London Umno Club, where Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom was also present," he said.

Khairuddin pointed out that RUU355 was a PAS initiative that was backed by the federal government.

"The positive response from all those present and the questions raised showed that this noble effort is fully supported by Malaysians abroad," he said.

Khairuddin said there will also be other engagement events in Birmingham, Manchester, Dublin and Belfast.

However, he did not say who the organisers of these events were.

Khairuddin's explanation came after his presence with Jamil Khir at the Umno function set tongues wagging.

There had been repeated speculations about possible political cooperation between Umno and PAS.

However, PAS had insisted that the cooperation was limited and would not extend to electoral collaboration.
