Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) founding member Anina Saadudin today met former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad on the party's leadership issue.
"We discussed a few things, including the leadership issue in Bersatu, for more than one hour this morning.
"I was trying my level best to touch on every angle on the whole thing," Anina told Malaysiakini.
This comes after her removal as Bersatu Srikandi (Wanita wing) chief following a sex scandal she was implicated in.
Last Saturday, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said Anina was not the party’s Srikandi chief because of her performance.
Bersatu earlier clarified that the party had not yet officially set up its Srikandi wing.
"I will continue the fight for the rakyat with Tun (Mahathir). We were both happy and I am touched by him," Anina said.
According to her, Mahathir (photo) encouraged her by saying that he was once sacked by Umno but still became a prime minister.
Anina said she would release a press statement tonight on her meeting with Mahathir, who is also Bersatu chairperson.
She revealed that Mahathir did not touch on the sex scandal, which she claimed was a baseless allegation created by those who wanted to bring her down.
"Tun did not ask about the sex scandal, and I did mention it to him. He is a type of person who never entertains allegations against him, or issues about his personal and family life," Anina said.
In fact, she said, she spoke about the issue with Mahathir last month and the latter knew the alleged scandal was not true.
"You must be a very important person so they want to bring you down, he told me. Thus, I must continue to fight for the people."
Anina added that she may call a press conference within a week to address the sex allegation made against her.
