A Datuk Seri who was recently arrested for allegedly assaulting a security guard over a parking issue has been released on police bail.

Northeast district police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid told reporters that the 50-year-old man was released on bail today.

"The case will be referred to the state prosecution unit for further action," Mior said in a statement.

A video of the man, believed to be a director of the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce, assaulting a security guard who had clamped his Mercedez Benz at a condominium in Jelutong, went viral on social media earlier this
week.

It is learned that the guard had clamped the vehicle for improper parking and the man had refused to pay the RM100 fine to remove the clamp.

The suspect is alleged to have attacked the guard with a bolt cutter, as well as with his fist. He was arrested after turning himself in at the police station. 

The security guard sustained injuries to his face as a result of the attack.

Police are probing the case under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt.
