Countdown to GE14 starting with Khalid Samad's fine?

YOURSAY | 'At the rate this is going, very soon all the opposition's lawmakers will be put in cold storage'.

Syariah court fines Khalid RM2,900, parliamentary seat at risk

P Dev Anand Pillai: I thought Islam is supposed to be a religion of peace, here is a person, Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad, trying to share his experiences by publicly speaking about it in a closed environment (surau) and he is said to be committing an offence!

Are all those who wear the turban or the white skull cap and have goatees and are seen in schools, mosques, government departments giving speeches about how one should conduct oneself within the ambits of the religion actually qualified?

I only hope that the Malays realise that their destiny lies in their own hands and not in the hands of those so-called 'highly educated' idiots whom they choose to become their leaders.

Within the Malay community, there just seems to be no room for the smart, there is only space for the compliant and blindly dumb and ignorant.

Hardboiled: Does every Muslim who wants to teach Islam to their family and peers require proper credentials? Did they need it too, centuries ago?

AJ: It seems if you are a potential threat to Umno, you are disqualified for everything.

Mosquitobrain: Hmm, I can smell a rat here. At the rate this is going, very soon all the opposition's lawmakers will be put in 'cold storage'. The 14th general election (GE14) will be a walk in the park for BN-Umno.

Shunyata: Wow, how timely. Yes, charge them all for pseudo-crimes and imaginary crimes six years on. How many skeletons more has the BN coalition got in the opposition's closet?

Never mind that they're plastic Halloween decor, just bring them all out, one by one.

Anonymous_40f4: Wow, how did the judge calculate the fine so 'tepat' as RM2,900. Why not RM2,001? This looks again like former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's case of another 'political trial disguised as a court case'.

Warrant Addict: I bet if Khalid Samad were still with the Taliban party, surely he would not be hauled up like this.

Speak For All: So the countdown starts with Khalid from now till GE14. Looks like all the top wigs in the opposition will be disqualified by the time GE14 is called, and it is not very far I guess, from now

Enlighten Others: One by one all the opposition leaders are being disqualified from participating in elections. Which is why the Pakatan Harapan brand name has to be strengthened.

6th Generation Immigrant: Just wondering out loud as a citizen of Malaysia and on behalf of all rakyat - can the incumbent government retain power in GE14 if all the courts are able to find Lim Guan Eng, Rafizi Ramli, Khalid Samad, etc. guilty of offences?

Where does that leave the rakyat if that is true? Is there no backlash expected? Not all solutions need political parties. Not all solutions are race, religion and money. All we need, for one or two terms only, to resolve the current stalemate in Malaysia is for 222 fair-minded individuals to offer themselves for elections.

The Independent candidates can all swear allegiance and use the 1957 federal constitution as their GE manifesto. Once elected, let Parliament sit and flow its natural course in accordance with the federal constitution.

We need a total reboot from too much politicking in Malaysia. Let's all go back to the first agreed constitution and then move forward from there again. We have to write off 50 years as losses.

Adam Ningau: This is how syariah affects non-Muslims, despite the fact Muslims keep saying that syariah is only for Muslims. Now they can even disqualify a MP who is voted in by voters of all religions.

Hplooi: Even without hudud, syariah law is used as a political tool of repression. This will presage how hudud will be implemented. No one can question those who are chosen.

Criticising the chosen will be criminalised as those chosen will be equated to representatives of God. Does that throw a light on why the authorities choose to come down hard on Muslim scholar Kassim Ahmad (quote, "the clerical class")?

Sa Tombs: I feel sorry for all my Muslim brothers. We are consistently persecuted from all sides if we don't conform to certain people's whims and fancies. It is just like PDRM calling up people on purported charges.

Just talking about our brothers in Palestine is an offence, and the next is our thoughts will also have to be in conformity with their thoughts. May Allah, the benevolent one, deal with these people appropriately.

Anonymous_1388029052: Why is the Election Commission (EC) chief Mohd Hashim Abdullah acting in indecent haste? Malaysians should demand that a post so important as an EC chairperson be someone of impeccable character and honesty.

The post should preferably be occupied by a retired judge who had served the country with full integrity, not any Tom, Dick or Harry plucked from the civil service.

Nil: The federal constitution is meant to be 'secular', so, should being fined by the syariah courts apply to the disqualification rule of an election?

Bornean: Is syariah court so powerful that it can disqualify a MP?

Anonymous_2410591459862040: This is how to win elections. Put those good ones out.
