Small and Medium Scale Entrepreneurs Alliance of Malaysia (Ikhlas) president Mohd Ridzuan Abdullah has warned of a bigger protest if the court does not make a fair ruling in the case of a lorry driver being assaulted.

“If the court makes an unfair decision, we will gather more than 1,000 lorry drivers and organise a massive protest,” he told reporters when met outside the Serdang district police headquarters.

Speaking to Malaysiakini later, Ridzuan said based on the court's decision, the lorry drivers might also gather in front of the Attorney-General's Chambers in Putrajaya.

The Ikhlas president and the assaulted lorry driver Nasrul Faiz Zulfahmi had their statements recorded by the police this morning under the Peaceful Assembly Act.

This is over a protest held over the weekend in Sungai Besi in relation to the assault, a video clip of which went viral on social media.

Ridzuan said lorry drivers wanted to gather in front of the district police headquarters, but he had stopped them from doing so.

Ridzuan, who organised the protest, said the PAA should not be used against Nasrul as the people have the right to voice their grievances and demonstrate.

“We want the government to study the PAA. There is no need to use the Act against the victim and cause distress to him,” he added.

Ridzuan also said their protest should not be compared to the one held by Bersih or the red-shirts.

Meanwhile, Nasrul said he is still traumatised by the attack and has asked his employer for leave in order to recover.

“The scars are not going away and I am still scared that the gangsters will attack me again,” he said.

A video posted online showed that Nasrul was attacked by four men outside a condominium in Ampang on Jan 14 when he accidentally hit a Mercedes-Benz car while reversing his lorry.

The police arrested five individuals in connection with the attack last Sunday. They were produced at the Ampang Magistrate's Court this afternoon.
