DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang is mulling legal action against PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang after the latter purportedly called him “anti-Islam”.

“My lawyers (have been) instructed to consider whether Hadi’s insinuation that I am anti-Islam is defamatory and cause for legal proceedings.

“What a haughty, arrogant but misconceived and misinformed response from Hadi,” Lim said in a statement today.

While conceding that Hadi had the prerogative to dismiss any possibility of working with DAP, Lim argued that the PAS president had no right to “twist and turn facts to justify his position”.

Hadi, yesterday, had dismissed any possibility of working with DAP.

The New Straits Times quoted the Marang MP as saying that this was because DAP had not shown that it supports PAS' Islamic cause.

Responding to Lim who had extended an olive branch to PAS in order to form a pact to "save Malaysia from becoming a global kleptocracy”, the Hadi said that it can't work with a party that is "against Islam" and the formation of an Islamic government which is the core of PAS' struggle.

Refuting this, Lim insisted that Hadi was wrong when he insinuated that he was anti-Islam.

“I am not anti-Islam and I support the inclusive, enlightened, progressive and tolerant Islamic vision as spelt out in the ‘PAS for all’ slogan in the 2013 general election,” he stressed.

“However, I cannot support an intolerant and extremist Islamic vision, whether by Islamic State or by any Islamic leader claiming to use Islam to hide their extremism and intolerance.”

The Gelang Patah lawmaker, meanwhile, said it appeared that Hadi did not mind Malaysia becoming a global kleptocracy under his concept of an Islamic Malaysia.

“I do not think even PAS members could accept such a concept, if its full implications are understood by PAS members and the Malaysian public,” he added.
