PAS is not interested in toppling BN as it is only targeting 40 parliamentary seats in the next general election, said Amanah Youth.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had said the party is targeting 40 seats at parliamentary level, to stay in government in Selangor and Kelantan, as well as to regain power in Terengganu and Kedah.

"This shows PAS realises it is not able to rule with its current political approach.

"PAS has thus indirectly given false hope to its followers who believe the party will take over from BN," Amanah Youth chief Sany Hamzah said in a statement.

As such, Sany said, voters who want to see a change of government should not vote PAS but other opposition parties that are committed in defeating BN.

"Voting for PAS in the 14th general election will hinder the opposition's efforts to save Malaysia from BN's grip," he said.

In his special presidential address in Kedah, Hadi had also said that it is the party's obligation to ensure Muslim leadership in Malaysia.

He said political co-operation with DAP and PKR in the 12th and 13th general elections denied BN the popular vote and got the opposition 89 seats in Parliament.

However, only 39 of those seats are held by Muslim MPs, Hadi said.

He also noted that PAS had the smallest share of seats, despite contributing to 25 percent of the Pakatan Rakyat election machinery.
